I remember lazy days when I would curl up like a leaf,
Beneath my tiny grandmother's monstrous quilt,
Outside sparrows would chirp cheerfully,
In the sun and the in the branches of the hibiscus tree,
The sheets would smell faintly of baby talc and tulsi,
While reading the newspaper, she would doze on the settee,
My sixteenth floor bedroom misses the sparrows almost as much as I miss my grandmother.
